In Mrs. Tori Broussard's civics classes today students were working hard using a strategy called Hexagonal Thinking to deepen their understanding of Unit 3: Domestic Policy.
In this activity, each hexagon represents an important concept from our civics unit. Students must connect the ideas and — most importantly — explain why the ideas are connected using evidence from class and the text.

This pushes students beyond memorization and into true critical thinking:
✔ making connections between concepts
✔ explaining relationships using academic language
✔ supporting their thinking with evidence

These are the same skills students must demonstrate on the LEAP constructed-response questions, where they are expected to analyze information, explain relationships, and justify their answers with facts.

Activities like this help students become more confident, independent thinkers, and better prepared for success on LEAP and beyond!

So proud of their hard work and growth! Stay tuned tomorrow for when we push them to the next level, when they have to explain the connections their peers made!!

It's BACK! This year, we are proud to begin SILENT SUSTAINED READING during Enrichment. Last year, we loved seeing our students and staff members dive into a great book for 20 minutes, so we decided to bring it back for the new year!

Also, reading is a key skill for our students on the LEAP, ACT, and WorkKeys tests. If you can read, you WILL succeed!

Students can check out a book from the library during library hours. Please share.

From our Pirate family to yours, we wish every member of our Pirate community a very Merry Christmas.

This season reminds us that school is more than a building. It is the people who fill it with laughter, grace, patience, and heart. Our students show resilience every day. Our teachers and staff who pour themselves into kids, even when it is hard. Our families and community who stand behind us with pride and unwavering support.

May this Christmas bring you rest, joy, and moments that slow time just enough to remind you what truly matters. Hold your people close, soak in the traditions, and know how grateful we are to walk this journey with you.

We are proud of our Pirates. We are thankful for our Pirate family. And together, we remain UNSTOPPABLE.

Merry Christmas

Christmas bingo at Kaplan High School never disappoints 🎄 Today our halls were filled with laughter, cheering, and pure holiday joy as students packed in for our annual Christmas Bingo tradition. And then it happened. When O67 was called, the room absolutely lost it. The laughter, the reactions, the excitement. It was something to behold and a moment we will be talking about for a long time. These are the moments that matter. Joy, connection, tradition, and kids simply being kids. We are proud of the spirit our students bring every day and especially during this special season. We wish our entire Pirate family a Merry Christmas, a happy holiday season, and a safe and restful break. Kaplan High School remains UNSTOPPABLE, even at bingo 🎄🏴‍☠️

Today, Mrs. Jamie’s Ag 3 class brought learning to life as students showcased the farm operations they designed for their midterm project. This was hands on, student driven learning at its best. Each student created a full business plan and a 3D model of their agricultural operation, and teachers had the chance to walk through, ask questions, and vote on their favorites.

This project perfectly reflects our schoolwide goal of engagement. Students were thinking, creating, problem-solving, and proudly explaining their work. When learning is active and meaningful, our students rise to the challenge.

Congratulations to our top finishers:
1st Place: Emma’s Pecan Paradise
2nd Place: Braydan’s Fig Factory
3rd Place: Lanie’s Hydroponic Farm and Salad Bar

We are proud of Mrs. Jamie and her students for showing what an unstoppable classroom looks like.
