This week is a great reminder that fire safety is everyone’s responsibility. At Kaplan High School, we regularly practice our emergency procedures so that our students and staff know exactly what to do if an emergency ever occurs.
We encourage our Pirate families to take a few minutes this week to talk about fire safety at home, check smoke detectors, review escape routes, and make sure everyone knows where to meet outside in case of a fire.
Preparation matters, and practicing before an emergency happens can make all the difference. Stay safe, Pirates! 🏴☠️
Isabel is an outstanding representative of what it means to be a Kaplan High Pirate. As the current Drum Major of the Golden Band from Pirateland, she leads with confidence, dedication, and heart.
Beloved by her peers and respected across our campus, Isabel brings a special combination of courage, intelligence, leadership, and a genuinely warm spirit to everything she does. We know she will represent KHS exceptionally well as she advances to the District Student of the Year competition.
We are incredibly proud of Isabel and thrilled to see her receive this prestigious honor. Congratulations, Isabel! Your Pirate family is cheering you on every step of the way. 🏴☠️

With approximately 141,000 student members in the NSDA, fewer than 2% of students receive this honor. The Academic All-American Award recognizes students for their accomplishments in both Speech & Debate and the classroom.
Hunter joined the KHS Speech Team as a freshman and immediately found success, earning a State Championship in Novice Impromptu Speaking. He continued that success during his sophomore year, earning his second State Championship, this time in Declamation, while also qualifying for the NCFL National Tournament for the past two years.
Kaplan High School Speech Coach Erika Trahan shares:
“Over the last three years, Hunter has been a guiding member of the KHS Speech Team. He is always willing to share his experiences and help younger competitors achieve success. His academic accomplishments, including a 4.0 GPA, combined with his leadership on the team, demonstrate why he has earned the NSDA Academic All-American Award. Hunter set this goal for himself as a freshman and worked very hard to achieve this honor.”
Hunter’s dedication, academic achievement, competitive success, and willingness to mentor others have made him an important part of the KHS Speech Team.
Congratulations, Hunter, on earning this well-deserved honor! We are incredibly proud of you!

We are proud to recognize these Pirates and celebrate the positive difference they make in our school community. Our students and teachers give us so many reasons to be proud of KHS, and this month, we’re putting these five in the spotlight!
Congratulations to our September honorees! Thank you for helping make this a LEGENDARY year at Kaplan High! 🏴☠️
Today, we celebrate the incredible custodial team that keeps Kaplan High School looking its absolute best every single day!
We say it proudly: KHS was voted the cleanest high school in Vermilion Parish, and that does not happen by accident. It happens because of a hardworking group of people who show up every day and take tremendous pride in our campus.
From classrooms and hallways to restrooms, offices, the cafeteria, and everywhere in between, their work can be seen throughout our entire school. Even more importantly, they are part of our Pirate family. They know our students, support our teachers, help whenever they are needed, and do countless things behind the scenes that most people never see.
A clean school creates a welcoming school, and our custodians make sure our Pirates walk into a campus every morning that we can all be proud to call home.
Please help us thank our LEGENDARY KHS custodial team for everything they do to keep our school SHINING!
We appreciate you more than you know! 🏴☠️

Mrs. Angel Campbell’s Civics students weren’t just learning about the Constitutional Convention today; they were put right in the middle of the debate!
Students took on a Constitutional Convention Escape Room, working together to solve some of the biggest challenges faced by our nation’s founders. They explored the competing Virginia and New Jersey Plans, worked through the debate over representation, created the Great Compromise, and examined the difficult history surrounding the Three-Fifths Compromise.
This is what we love to see in a LEAP-tested classroom: students thinking, discussing, problem-solving, and applying historical concepts instead of simply memorizing them.
Thank you, Mrs. Angel, for finding creative ways to make challenging Civics content meaningful and memorable for our students. These Pirates are building the knowledge and critical-thinking skills they’ll need not only for LEAP, but to better understand how our government came to be.
