At Kaplan High, we don’t just talk about engagement, we live it every day. Our second school goal is all about making learning active and exciting, and today Ms. Katelyn Bares's class showed us exactly what that looks like!
Her students were practicing safe and important knife skills in the kitchen, without the sharp edges. Instead, they grabbed Play-Doh, rolled up their sleeves, and had an absolute ball while Ms. Katelyn guided them through the lesson.
This is engagement in action: hands-on learning, smiling faces, and skills that will last a lifetime. Way to go, Ms. Kaitlyn and her unstoppable students! 🏴☠️

Oh, what a night in Pirate Country!
Our Pirates stormed the field and delivered a 49–0 victory over Berwick, and it felt like the beginning of something BIG.
From the first snap to the final whistle, our boys played with focus, fire, and heart. The band gave us chills with a halftime performance that shook the stands, and our fans… wow. The joy, the love, the pride pouring out from those bleachers was something special.
Nights like this remind us why we show up, why we cheer, why we come together under the Friday night lights. It isn’t just football. It’s family. It’s community. It’s what makes Kaplan unstoppable.
Thank you, Pirate Nation, for filling the air with hope, pride, and love. These are the nights we’ll remember forever.

Our second school-wide goal is all about increasing engagement across campus. Engagement isn’t just about paying attention. It means students are active, curious, and connected to the lesson. It means teachers are bringing content to life, asking questions, checking for understanding, and making learning something our students actually look forward to.

Our Pirates showed up and showed out today for our Red, White, and Blue theme as we get ready to take on Berwick tonight here at KHS! The halls were filled with energy, school spirit was overflowing, and our staff could not be prouder of the way our students came together this morning.

The safety of our students and community is our top priority. Recently, we have had too many children running around the stadium unattended, especially under the bleachers. This is unsafe and will no longer be allowed.
Effective immediately:
Parents are expected to watch their children at all times during the game.
No middle school or elementary student will be allowed to purchase a ticket without a parent present.
All high school students must show their current school ID at the gate. No exceptions.
No student is allowed to sit in the reserved ticket section unless they have a reserved ticket. Any student found in this section without a ticket will be asked by a police officer to leave the game.
We want our football games to remain a safe and enjoyable environment for everyone. Thank you for helping us make this possible.☠️

Today, Kaplan High School celebrated a moment years in the making with the Unveiling of the Turf Field. Kaplan Elementary and FIEB joined the Class of 2026 for the first official running of the field, and it was a sight to remember. Tears were shed as our Kaplan High students and staff cheered from the stands, watching the next generation of Pirates take those first steps.
A heartfelt thank you to Dr. Dan Dartez and Superintendent Tommy Byler for making this the very first turf field in Vermilion Parish, and to Mrs. Kimberly Etie for bringing this unforgettable idea forward to our admin team.
We are grateful to see the community come together in such a powerful way. Today proved once again that we are forever Pirate strong and community strong. 🏴☠️
