Student volunteers from the Kaplan High School Jammin' Jambalaya set sail on a mission of kindness yesterday as they visited Vermilion Healthcare Center, sponsored by KHS Student Council. Armed with sweet treats, music and dancing, handwritten cards, and heartfelt letters, our Pirates spread joy from room to room—proving that you don’t need a treasure chest to make someone’s day shine.
Residents were all smiles as our students shared conversations, laughter, and a little Pirate cheer. This voyage of kindness reminded us all that true treasure lies in giving back.
We’re so proud of these young Pirates for showing what #Unstoppable compassion looks like in our community.

Today our amazing faculty and staff filled the halls of Kaplan High with acts of kindness, laughter, and gratitude! From writing uplifting notes and sharing smiles to nominating one another on our Pirates of Kindness Wall and completing their Kindness Bingo challenges — our team truly showed what it means to have Pirate Pride with heart.

This event is one of the most meaningful traditions we hold each year. It’s our chance to pause, reflect, and show our deepest gratitude to the men and women who have served our country. Their courage, sacrifice, and commitment remind us what true service and strength look like.
Our guests will enjoy a live performance showcase prepared especially for them, along with a delicious breakfast made by Mrs. Katelyn Bares and her FACS classes.

Today was one of those rare days where you could feel community in the smiles, the laughter, and the aroma of jambalaya filling the air. From the early morning setup to the last bowl served, this campus was alive with Pirate pride and hometown love.
We are truly overwhelmed and undeniably grateful for the outpouring of support at our Jammin’ Jambalaya Fundraiser. Every person who bought a ticket, stirred a pot, handed out meals, or showed up, thank you. You didn’t just support a fundraiser; you supported our kids, our school, and our town.
To our Student Council and BETA student helpers, wow, y’all were the heartbeat of this event. You worked hard, stayed kind, and represented Kaplan High with the class and spirit that make this place so special. You made us proud.
And to Chef Dylan Roussel and his incredible crew, you’re the real deal. Showing up at 4 a.m. with smiles, stories, and a work ethic unmatched… your generosity and professionalism brought this event to life. If anyone is ever planning something like this, he’s the one to call.
Today reminded us why Kaplan is home, because when we come together, there’s truly nothing we can’t do.
