Today, we celebrate the incredible custodial team that keeps Kaplan High School looking its absolute best every single day!
We say it proudly: KHS was voted the cleanest high school in Vermilion Parish, and that does not happen by accident. It happens because of a hardworking group of people who show up every day and take tremendous pride in our campus.
From classrooms and hallways to restrooms, offices, the cafeteria, and everywhere in between, their work can be seen throughout our entire school. Even more importantly, they are part of our Pirate family. They know our students, support our teachers, help whenever they are needed, and do countless things behind the scenes that most people never see.
A clean school creates a welcoming school, and our custodians make sure our Pirates walk into a campus every morning that we can all be proud to call home.
Please help us thank our LEGENDARY KHS custodial team for everything they do to keep our school SHINING!
We appreciate you more than you know! 🏴☠️

Mrs. Angel Campbell’s Civics students weren’t just learning about the Constitutional Convention today; they were put right in the middle of the debate!
Students took on a Constitutional Convention Escape Room, working together to solve some of the biggest challenges faced by our nation’s founders. They explored the competing Virginia and New Jersey Plans, worked through the debate over representation, created the Great Compromise, and examined the difficult history surrounding the Three-Fifths Compromise.
This is what we love to see in a LEAP-tested classroom: students thinking, discussing, problem-solving, and applying historical concepts instead of simply memorizing them.
Thank you, Mrs. Angel, for finding creative ways to make challenging Civics content meaningful and memorable for our students. These Pirates are building the knowledge and critical-thinking skills they’ll need not only for LEAP, but to better understand how our government came to be.
Another LEGENDARY day of learning at Kaplan High! 🏴☠️

Attendance is one of our big goals at Kaplan High this year, and apparently we needed to call in an expert.
Enter... MR. POTATO HEAD.
😂
Here’s how it works: Every day a homeroom has PERFECT ATTENDANCE, they earn a piece to add to their Mr. Potato Head. An ear here. A mustache there. Maybe some eyes if everybody decides to show up and take care of business.
But once that potato is completely built, something magical happens...
MR. POTATO HEAD HIMSELF SHOWS UP TO THE CLASSROOM WITH A POTATO CHIP PARTY!
And judging by the smiles and laughs coming from Coach Donald’s and Madame Laura’s classrooms, Mr. Potato Head may have just become the most popular member of the KHS attendance team!
We love finding fun ways to celebrate something that matters: SHOWING UP. Being here matters. Taking care of your business matters. And apparently, potatoes matter too.
Congratulations to our first classrooms to build their spud!
Thank you for your service, Mr. Potato Head. Kaplan High appreciates you. 🏴☠️
We want to make sure everyone is prepared before arriving at the game!

This is a great opportunity for our Pirates to start exploring their options, asking questions, and making connections for their future! 🎓🛠️💼🏴☠️
Today, our U.S. History students completed a “Choose Your Own Adventure: Underground Railroad” activity. Students stepped into the perspective of a teenager enslaved in Maryland in 1852 and had to make a series of difficult decisions as they tried to navigate the path toward freedom.
Would you leave your family behind for a chance at freedom? Would you trust a stranger offering help? Would you keep going when one wrong decision could change everything?
Every choice sent students down a different path, and not every path ended in freedom. Through the activity, students experienced just how much courage, sacrifice, determination, and trust were required of those who attempted to escape slavery, as well as the extraordinary risks taken by people like Harriet Tubman to help others reach freedom.
Harriet Tubman’s story reminds us that LEGENDARY people are not simply remembered because of what happened to them, they are remembered because of the choices they made when the stakes were at their highest.
Today, our students didn’t just learn about history. They had to stop and ask themselves: What would I have done?
Learning from the legendary. Working to become legendary.
