Our Kaplan High School 7th Hour athletes were rewarded for all their hard work with a little Funky Fusion today! 🎉
These athletes have been putting in the work, and today was all about having fun, making memories, and enjoying a well-deserved break from their normal PE routine!

LEGENDARY LEARNING IN WESTERN CIV!
Who says learning about the Bronze Age can't be creative?
Coach Brandon Johnson challenged his Western Civilization students to think critically, conduct their own research, and make connections between seven readings about the Bronze Age using an activity called Hexagonal Thinking!
But his 4th hour class decided to take things a step further!
When Coach Brandon introduced the activity, student Owen Marceaux quickly asked, "So Coach, this is like honeycomb thinking?" That simple observation led to an even better question: "Can we actually make a honeycomb?"
And that's exactly what they did!
What we LOVE about this lesson is that students weren't simply memorizing historical facts. They were researching, making connections, collaborating, and finding creative ways to demonstrate their understanding!
A huge shoutout to Coach Johnson for encouraging students to think outside the box and to his 4th-hour students for taking ownership of their learning!
THIS is what happens when creativity and critical thinking come together in a classroom!

🎃🍬 No Tricks, Just Treats… and a Whole Lot of LEADERSHIP! 👻🏴☠️
Today, five members of our KHS Student Council Executive Board attended “The Spirit of Leadership”, a student leadership event held at ARCA High School in Youngsville!
Our student leaders had the opportunity to connect with fellow student council members, gain fresh ideas, and strengthen the leadership skills that help them make a positive impact on our campus.
We are so proud of these five students for stepping up, representing KHS, and continuing to grow as leaders! We can’t wait to see them put what they’ve learned into action and bring some exciting ideas back to Pirate Nation!

Our goal was to match last year's 900:(
We know people usually wait until the last minute to order food for October 31st, and we are now in crunch time.
Y'all came through in a BIG way for us last year, and we are hoping y'all can continue that community magic and help us again. Remember, ALL proceeds go to student incentives and teacher incentives.
Also, student council will be there to sell amazing Halloween treats for all the trick-or-treaters who are sure to be knocking at your door that evening. This is a WIN-WIN situation: Amazing lunch. Amazing treats...ALL IN ONE STOP.

Homecoming Dress Days will start this Tuesday (13th)-through Thursday (15th) due to Fall Break happening during our Homecoming Week. We will resume the dress days on Thursday (22nd).

It’s Fire Prevention Week!
This week is a great reminder that fire safety is everyone’s responsibility. At Kaplan High School, we regularly practice our emergency procedures so that our students and staff know exactly what to do if an emergency ever occurs.
We encourage our Pirate families to take a few minutes this week to talk about fire safety at home, check smoke detectors, review escape routes, and make sure everyone knows where to meet outside in case of a fire.
Preparation matters, and practicing before an emergency happens can make all the difference. Stay safe, Pirates! 🏴☠️

We are pleased to announce that Hunter Packard has received the prestigious National Academic All-American Award from the National Speech & Debate Association (NSDA)!
With approximately 141,000 student members in the NSDA, fewer than 2% of students receive this honor. The Academic All-American Award recognizes students for their accomplishments in both Speech & Debate and the classroom.
Hunter joined the KHS Speech Team as a freshman and immediately found success, earning a State Championship in Novice Impromptu Speaking. He continued that success during his sophomore year, earning his second State Championship, this time in Declamation, while also qualifying for the NCFL National Tournament for the past two years.
Kaplan High School Speech Coach Erika Trahan shares:
“Over the last three years, Hunter has been a guiding member of the KHS Speech Team. He is always willing to share his experiences and help younger competitors achieve success. His academic accomplishments, including a 4.0 GPA, combined with his leadership on the team, demonstrate why he has earned the NSDA Academic All-American Award. Hunter set this goal for himself as a freshman and worked very hard to achieve this honor.”
Hunter’s dedication, academic achievement, competitive success, and willingness to mentor others have made him an important part of the KHS Speech Team.
